| In the back streets of the Hague there exists a store that has established themselves amongst the locals as the leader of craft beer. This store is ABC Bier and they are the inner cities off license craft beer provider and their own nano brewery. Local university students, professionals and everyone else who enjoys good beer flock to ABC to discover one of the brands in store from hundreds of breweries from across the globe. In the small floor space the back alley store has, dozens of shelves hold hundreds of beer brands not only from Europe but from the United States and Asia too. ABC is owned and operated by Dean Southall. Originally from England, Dean now lives in Holland and owns and runs ABC beer store and his own nano brewery, ABC Beers. After staying with a friend in a student community of the University of Leiden in Den Haag (the Hague) center and talking to the many craft beer enthusiast student there, I was constantly referred to go to ABC. I went there with a small group of students for a beer tasting of several to the hundreds of bottles of beer at the store. After walking into the unexpecting front doors you are truly overwhelmed with the broad variety of amazing craft beers from across the globe. Its almost hard to start at one corner of the shop and move from there. There is just so much the store has to offer that making a choice of beers is its own process in the best way possible. You can buy bottles and have them in the shop, at your home/hostel or depending on the time of year in the streets. I was lucky enough to be in the Hague for Kings Night when the streets were open to pubic drinking. Kings Night for those who do not know is very much like a Netherlands national pride day of 4th of july in USA terms. The native people of Holland get dressed to the nines in bright orange and party for about two days straight, its a great time even for those non-natives to the country. ABC Beers is a absolute must if you can stop in the Hague or are visiting the Hague in your travels. The store has more to offer than just your run of the mill beer, there is something for everyone. Just go there and ask Dean to help you with your decision if you can't make up your mind of what beer to discover. Visit ABC Beer online at their website at http://www.abcbeers.nl/welkom |
