| While discovering the streets of Florence I as recommended to visit The Scottish pub, having just come from Edinburgh it seemed only natural that I should visit the Italian version of a Scottish Pub. Walking into the door I was more than surprised. The walls were covered with brewabilia, taps representing brews from the United Kingdom, Italy and the rest of Europe with a unique bottle range of beers, ciders, whiskeys, scotch, spirits and sodas from around the world. But that was only one side of the Scottish Pub's appeal. Behind the bar is some of the kindness bar staff I have come across of whom personalities draw passersby off the street and into the atmosphere of the hard wood adorned bar. All the staff are able to communicate in multiple languages and were very happy to engage anyone and everyone into a conversation. Including my own antics of conversation, I can talk! Not only are the staff friendly and chatty they are also very knowledgeable about the beverages they retail, especially knowledgeable when it came to their lineup of dozens of Scotches range from all the four Scotch regions of Scotland. I’m a beer man with an enthusiasm for soda myself, but good tip for any Scotch or whiskey lovers visiting or staying in Florence, do visit the Scottish bar you will not be disappointed! The Scottish Pub also hosts changing bar events monthly. I was not in Florence for their events, though the photos and the people that I talked to who attend the lastest the weekend before said, ‘’the events are the highlight of the months.’’ visit the Scottish Pub while in Florence at Corso dei Tintori, 41rosso 50122 - Firenze Visit the online to stay up to date on events and activies at http://www.scottishpub.it/ |

Lets get started! I developed the idea to build this international network through my research I completed to write my dissertation 'Developing Marketing Trends in the beer Industry' to get my Masters degree from Edinburgh University in Edinburgh Scotland, United Kingdom. While doing my two years of research and meeting with dozens of beverage organizations I started to realize that all of these organizations had the same core issue. Their businesses could be developed and or perform more efficiently to meet their business goals by simply communicating with other organizations. Many Beverage organizations have had the same growing pains or business related issues that many of the breweries were facing while I was meeting with them. Issues were as simple as cutting costs of their raw materials that could be easily solved by group purchasing with other local organizations. To more product related questions such as recipe building and equipment acquiring/maintenance. To the more involved questions like, how can I get my products in a foreign market? Many of these beverage organizations have amazing products and might be doing great business so far. Though, the lack of either business knowledge, market knowledge or product/product building knowledge holds these groups back from developing as they would like to. The International Drink Collaborative Network's goal is to aid communication between beverage organizations and individual consumers as to build better products and services that will assist organizations to meet their business goals. Though just like many network organizations the first problem to solve is getting the starting members of the organization on board. I decided to take on the challenge by my self and planned a traveling champagne to go out and personally meet with these organizations to establish the founding members of the collaborative network. My travels began in Edinburgh where I had just about finished my degree over to Italy, The Netherlands, and ending in Belgium as the first round of my travels. The goal of the trip was to stay a few nights in each city visited and meeting with the breweries and supporting beverage organizations such as craft beer bars local to those cities. While meeting with these organizations I talked through the benefits from communicating with other organizations and by working directly with their consumers. So of these organizations were kind enough to let my write about them in this blog, of which will be posted in the coming weeks. My travels lead me to many very interested organizations that wanted to work with others though did not know where to start or who would be willing to work with them. Though breweries and other beverage organizations both big and small were all very willing to work with each other regardless of size. The second round of trips had me travel south from Edinburgh Scotland to London England. Then flying over to mainland Europe entering into Germany for a couple of weeks then renting a car and driving through the Czech Republic. Then traveling back to Munich Germany and continuing to travel north through Germany for a couple more weeks and taking the ferry over to Copenhagen Denmark. From Copenhagen I then returned to The Netherlands and then over a weeks time traveled south to Belgium to revisit some organizations. Similar to the first round of the trip I spent only a few nights in each city and seeked out breweries, wineries, distilleries and supporting beverage organizations to talk them through the benefits of the Collaborative Network. The trip was a great success, with meetings with dozens of organizations and hundreds of consumers who all are onboard the network wanting to work with each other. This blog is to document the trip and to encourage more organizations and individuals to come on board and start collaborating so we can work together to make a better beverage industry. IDCollab also provides business and marketing consulting services to organizations in the beverage industry along with quality control and event staffing for importing and national organizations in the New England area of the United States.
